We have contributed to Boston's leadership in biomedical research and commercial biotechnology for more than 50 years. The organization has been the source of extraordinary discovery since its founder, Dr. E. J. Cohn, and his colleagues first fractionated blood into its constituent parts. The primary mission of our researchers is to advance human health by discovering new knowledge about immunology and inflammation. We train postdoctoral research fellows for the next generation of academic and industrial leaders in biomedicine. We have a very active program to transfer technology to industry for the development of medical treatments and cures. The Institute is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, and our senior researchers hold academic appointments in the medical school.
